A few years ago, the trip to the sea could be a real test, but today the logistics of the south of Ukraine have improved significantly. Zatoka is located just 60 km from Odesa on a narrow sandy spit (Karolino-Buhaz spit), and you can get here quickly and comfortably from anywhere in the country. We have analyzed all current routes for 2026 so that your vacation begins without stress.

1. How to Get There from Odesa (The Most Popular Route)

Most tourists first arrive in Odesa (by train or bus), and from there they go to Zatoka. This is the most convenient and well-established route.

Minibus (Marshrutka)

This is the fastest way to get directly to the desired area of Zatoka.

  • From where: From the Odesa Railway Station (Starosinna Square) and the "Pryvoz" bus station.
  • Minibus numbers: No. 560 (Odesa — Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, passes through all of Zatoka) or No. 565 (Odesa — Zatoka).
  • Travel time: 1 hour 10 minutes (excluding summer traffic jams).
  • Cost in 2026: about 120–150 UAH.
  • Schedule: Depart as they fill up, usually every 20-30 minutes from 6:00 to 21:00.

Commuter Train (Elektrichka)

An ideal option if you are traveling with large luggage or children and want to avoid potential traffic jams on the highway.

  • From where: "Odesa-Holovna" Railway Station.
  • Travel time: 1 hour 30 minutes – 1 hour 50 minutes (depending on the stop).
  • Cost: 50–80 UAH.
  • Stops in Zatoka: The spit has several stations. You need to find out in advance from your hotel which station is closest ("Karolino-Buhaz", "Lymanska", "Morska", "Soniachna", "Buhaz").
  • Minus: Trains run on a strict schedule (approximately once every 2-3 hours), and in summer it can be hot in the carriages.

Taxi from Odesa

If you value comfort, you can order a taxi right from the station or airport (if functioning). In 2026, all popular services (Uklon, Bolt) are working.

  • Cost: from 800 to 1500 UAH depending on the car class and time of day.
  • Tip: Book a transfer in advance through your hotel — it is often cheaper and safer than taking a car "from the curb" near the station.

2. How to Get There from Kyiv

Direct Bus (Charter)

In summer, from Kyiv (from the Teremky metro station or the Railway Station), comfortable night and day buses run daily straight to the resort bases of Zatoka.

  • Travel time: 6–7 hours.
  • Cost: 700–1200 UAH (depending on the carrier and bus class).
  • Pros: No need to make a transfer in Odesa with luggage. You will be dropped off as close to the hotel as possible.

Train + Minibus

The classic and most comfortable option for sleeping. You take a night train or a high-speed Intercity Kyiv-Odesa. In the morning you arrive in Odesa, exit the station, and 100 meters from the platforms you get on minibus No. 560.

  • Total time: about 9 hours (night train) or 5-6 hours (Intercity).

3. Traveling by Your Own Car

For many Ukrainians, a car remains the favorite way to travel. The road south is currently in good condition.

  • Route: From most regions, you need to drive to Odesa (E95/M05 highway), then take the bypass road to the M-15 highway (Odesa-Reni) or T1604, following the signs for Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi/Zatoka.
  • Road quality: The highway from Odesa to Zatoka is in excellent condition, with high-quality asphalt and markings.
  • 2026 Nuances (Important!): Zatoka is a narrow spit with one main road. On Friday evening (entry) and Sunday evening (exit) huge traffic jams form here. Also, the bridge in Zatoka (which is raised to let ships pass) can cause a 40-60 minute delay. Follow the bridge raising schedule!
  • Parking: Be sure to check the availability of private parking at the hotel before booking. Leaving a car just on the side of a narrow spit is dangerous, and paid parking lots can be full.

Summary

Logistics to Zatoka are simple and clear. If you are traveling with a large family with children — choose a train + direct transfer from the hotel so as not to get tired. For youth and easy-going couples, direct buses or a commuter train from Odesa are perfect.
